2 FA L L 2 0 2 5 I C A S Q U A R T E R L Y Greetings to all CAS members and other readers. There are a ton of great articles in this issue that I hope you find as interesting as I do. But first, let me congratulate the 35 members of the Cinema Audio Society who received nominations for the 77th Emmy Awards! Best of luck to all of you! Speaking of awards, planning for our 62nd Annual CAS Awards is well underway. Submissions open October 28, 2025, with the show on March 7, 2026. We are happy to be back at the Beverly Hilton—but with many enhancements. Construction continues on the hotel, but there will be a new, faster drop point on Wilshire, a new gathering space, and I expect a more spacious feel in general. Details will be forthcoming. In other CAS news, we have forayed into using our individual and collective expertise to help set industry standards. Our Industry Technical Standards Committee, chaired by Marc Fishman CAS with Vice Chair Jon Greasley CAS, have been working tirelessly on recommendations to the Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) to clarify and improve the standards behind the Commercial Advertisement Loudness Mitigation (CALM) Act. These recommended modifications should help with overall dialogue clarity. Following delivery of our recommendations to the ATSC, we were invited to join their July 15 meeting. Jon Greasley presented and discussed our recommendations in more detail. I expect the stature of our membership will lead to many more opportunities to help improve the guidelines used in the presentation of our work. Also in July, we held our Annual CAS Membership Picnic at Vasa Park in Agoura Hills, CA. Members, families, and friends turned out for a day of food, games, and camaraderie as you can see in the photos included in this issue and on our website. I was happy to be able to attend and greet (and sometimes meet) many members. Our Events Committee is planning another event, the Family Friendly Beach Day, which is coming up soon. Be sure to check your email for finalized information. While I was at the picnic, I was thrilled to spend time with Juan Cisneros CAS and Daniel Vasquez V. CAS. Both divide their time between L.A. and South America. This became the foundation for a new CAS International Committee. We hope this committee helps to expand our international presence by bringing in more renowned mixers from all over the world and enhancing communities in their home countries with new gatherings and educational offerings. We hope this may also lead to creating educational videos in multiple languages that we can offer to sound mixers everywhere. Finally, our plans for The Sounding Board v5.0 this fall are coming together quickly. Look for details on our website or via email. I expect there will be both an opportunity and need for current members to assist in all of these endeavors. Let us know your interest! I hope to see you soon—wherever that may be! Peter F.
