CAMERA TECHNOLOGY www.postmagazine.com 22 POST MAY/JUNE 2025 ARRI'S NEW CAMERA COMPANION APP ENABLES PERSONALIZED CONTROL MUNICH, GERMANY — Arri (www.arri.com) has launched its Camera Companion App for iPhone, iPad and Mac with Apple Silicon, enabling users to configure their own personalized interface for remote control of one or multiple Alexa 35, Mini LF, Mini, 265 and Amira cameras. The beta program for the app received valuable feedback from thousands of industry professionals, helping to shape the final feature set. The Camera Companion can be downloaded from the Apple App Store and is available in two subscription options. The standard subscription provides comprehensive control of one or two Arri cameras, while the premium sub- scription adds features such as unlimited cameras and MIDI support. A free demo version of the app offers basic, single-camera control; camera-menu access; and free trial periods that allow users to gain familiarity with the control possibilities. Every new project in the app includes a simulated camera, so users can start exploring, even if they don't have a camera in-hand. Connection to a real Arri camera can be implemented either via the camera's own wi-fi network or a wider on-set network. Personalized control is at the heart of the app experience. Users can choose a predefined layout or drag & drop control tiles into a custom layout that suits their way of working. Unlimited app user buttons can be assigned to any camera function and then dragged & dropped into the user's person- alized layout. With a premium subscription, the interface can be organized into multiple tabs so users can create separate tabs for different cameras or shooting situ- ations. Tabs can also be assigned to specific functions, like playback control. Beta testers appreciated the app's ability to save builds by project, as well as its independent interfaces for DPs and DITs. The app can help users realize considerable time savings over physically setting up cameras. In addition, adjustments can be made to camera settings while at a monitor station. The premium subscription expands the app's functionality with unlimited cameras and tabs, lens control via cforce lens motors, sensor sync shift, CDL control for live grading, and video-parameter control for Alexa Mini and Amira cameras. MIDI support for tactile control via physical input devices adds op- portunities to control Arri cameras with MIDI-enabled devices of any kind. Red Digital Cinema (red.com) demonstrated its new Z Cinema Series at June's Cine Gear Expo 2025 in Los Angeles. The Z Cinema Series brings native locking Nikon Z mount capabilities to Red's V-Raptor [X] and Komodo-X cameras, and is the result of close co- ordination between Nikon and Red. Operators can now incororate Z lenses into cinema style shooting experiences, with advanced fea- tures that include smooth iris control, customizable lens response and adjustable auto-focus speeds. Given the shallow flange depth, the Nikon Z mount is compatible with additional lens systems via third-party adapters.
