LA was steeped in decadence and grandeur, and Beverly Hills was its "poster child." It was the center of glamour and celebrity culture as it exemplified many of the cultural trends and stereotypes that set the tone at the time. Rolex watches and flashy Porsche cars represented symbols of status in society; fashion brands like Guess, Fred Segal, Georgio and Ralph Lauren were booming while popular shows like Robin Leach's Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous and Hollywood's Entertainment Tonight celebrated this excess. It was during this time that Lyle and Erik Menendez became residents of 722 North Elm Drive after Jose Menendez gathered his family from New Jersey and moved to sunny California.
