The interior of Will's house was based loosely on the cabin filmed up on Gold Hill. Outside the windows of the set would be a forced perspective view of a high horizon line with a mix of foam core cutouts of what is actually outside the windows of the cabin location. I took photos on location and we blew them up on our Epson printer, cut them out into planes and assembled them out the windows to give a sense of scale. When the camera moves inside the cabin set, this gave a good sense parallax. The windows of the structures in the distance were fitted with those electric twinkle candleights you get at Michaels to create a flicker that would be coming from Will's neighbors' houses. Sean Britts, the Atlanta set decorator, and his team dressed Will's cabin with references from Joanne's dressing of the cabin shot in Colorado. This set would have a center wild-able wall so it could also be dressed to play as Nina's laboratory interior. Chris Armistead found some beautiful recycled timber which gave the set a great, authentic look. We didn't even have to paint the lumber much as it was already aged. It was really sweet. For the ski lift set, Chris Armistead's metal workers assembled the parts, according to Set Designer Nate Dahlkemper's intricate drawings using SketchUp Pro, all based on an actual set of the real working drawings by the ski lift manufacturer from Italy. For stunt meetings, we created a half-inch scale model. Once in place, this thing was huge! Eventually, we bolted this mammoth steel colossus of a structure to the stage floor. The gondola chair itself weighed a massive one thousand pounds.
