As a Fabric Buyer, Espinoza finds that she has a resourcefulness that makes her great for the role. "I'm a dog with a bone when I'm given a niche thing to find. I love rummaging and digging through dusty warehouses and old crates and boxes for treasure. I love thinking outside the box and going down weird internet rabbit holes and thrift stores and non-traditional shops and vendors for costuming materials. It's incredibly sweaty, non-glamorous, and I've had to get a tetanus shot because of it in the past, but the thrill of the hunt is worth it and finding the absolutely perfect trim or fabric or button or whatever makes it all worthwhile." What was your role as Fabric and Notions Sourcer on this production and how was it different from other productions? ESPINOZA: I have worked with some very kind people who never hesitated to help when they could and always answered my texts or phone calls asking weird questions! I was a PA with Marvel for two projects, left one of them to go work at Western Costume Company, and then right around the time I left that job, I went right back to Marvel and worked as a Fabric Buyer on Echo. I was a replacement for the previous buyer who had moved on to a different project, so I always felt like I was filling in the gaps and rounding out the odds and ends on established costumes more than anything. On Agatha, I was there from the very start and got to see almost every major costume built in LA from early concept all the way to completion and always felt like I had more of a hand in it. It was also a major factor that it was the first show I've been on as a buyer with the workroom in the same building, since usually I'm just shipping stuff out of state and have very limited contact. Being able to walk in and talk to the people doing the construction, ask them questions and get feedback from both them and the design team, and seeing things slowly come together in real time made a huge difference. Where were the places you went to source? Were there specific places you went depending on each character? ESPINOZA: I went a little bit of everywhere! Since I worked in the fabric store at WCC, I often knew if there was something special or unique there, like vintage lace trims or buttons. Their library of swatch books is also huge and a great resource. Off the top of my head, I also frequented International Silks & (L-R): Alice Wu-Gulliver (Ali Ahn), Lilia Calderu (Patti LuPone), Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn), and Rio Vidal (Aubrey Plaza) in Marvel Television's Agatha All Along.
