I feel like I really went out on a high note, and the big surprise on my last day, they threw me a hell of a party. There were dancers in costumes that I patterned on the flatbed truck, Star- Lord and Scarlet Witch. There were balloons, a video of my career and then the most amazing thing is they dedicated the Marvel Workroom to me, and there's a plaque that says the Marilyn Madsen Workroom. Katherine Hoang Katherine Hoang Katherine Hoang worked as the First Hand in the LA workroom team on Agatha. A First Hand, also sometimes called a Table Person, is the bridge between the Pattern Maker and the rest of the manufacturing team. Hoang has been sewing since she was finished Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and was home taking a break, and then suddenly, I really didn't realize how old I was but Social Security sent me a letter saying, 'we know how old you are, and we have to start sending you money.' Daniel called and it was just intriguing, because it was new and it was not normal Marvel. It was women and practical, they did all the stunts and it was like back at the beginning of my career, where things were practical and stretch fabrics didn't exist. I was so happy. We made real beautiful, beautiful clothes for Agatha. And it was an all-female team in my workroom. Maddison Carroll was one of the ACDs, and I had mentored her and assisted her in getting into the union. So it was like her first big job and my last. It was fresh, it was different, and we did not use an inch of Euro jersey. It was delightful. We did real tailoring, we did real shirt making. All the witches are taught by her father, who sewed all his life, and credits her path into costumes to him. She later took high school electives and summer courses in sewing that advanced her passion for sewing construction. "Initially, I wanted to be a bridal designer because I loved the show Say Yes to the Dress. However, after going to fashion design school for college, I realized that the fashion world was not for me and the costume world was becoming more intriguing." She earned her degree in fashion design, worked on student films and at Universal Studios as a Costume Dresser, deciding that she was meant to work in costumes. "I got into the Theatre Costume Design program a year later and it's been nonstop ever since." While in graduate school, she got the opportunity to intern on Captain Marvel in 2018 and met Costume Designer Sanja Hays and Costume Supervisor Linda Matthews. She was able to complete Patty LuPone as Lilia Calderu; (right) a mock-up of Lilia's jacket with fabric samples attached; (opposite) Ghost Agatha costume included a light up bodice.
