actors had signed agreements. We left these two sets behind in July, in the heat of summer. We came back in November to film the motel with freezing overnight temperatures and three days to change over. After surviving the Westway Motel tornado, Kate heads over to Darlene's farm, her mom's house, on location, and a barn on stage. PS: She's able to finally go back home and see her mom who she's estranged from because being home reminds her of the pain of losing her friends. Kate realizes that she needs her mom in that close- call moment. The farmhouse was a Centennial-style house outside of Kingfisher, OK, which we modified and was then dressed beautifully by Missy Parker. Kate finds the strength to revisit the pain of the past by going inside the barn. On the property, there was an existing metal shed barn that we decided to skin over with reclaimed wood from a real barn acquired from Missouri. We decided to build the barn interior on stage back at Prairie Surf Studios. To help define Darlene's character in a few short scenes, Andrew Nowling gave us a gorgeous garden area for the dinner scene and a field of sunflowers surrounding the barn. This was another subtle nod to Twister's int. OM: The big final tornado hits a refinery first then heads into El Reno, where it blows through a farmer's market and ends up destroying a theater. PS: A thrilling, engaging tornado sequence that builds drama and energy for a really big conclusion. The refinery had always been a part of the film. We were unable to get permission to film a real refinery in Ponca City. We knew that it would be entirely computer generated, so we used all the photos taken of that facility as a basis. The town of El Reno is in the path of the monstrous tornado, which has now gained energy from the heat of the refinery explosion, growing into an EF5. Our filming location, El Reno, was sadly hit by a real tornado a few years prior, so we had to be respectful and reverential in our approach. As it approaches the town, the tornado crosses a baseball field where players and spectators scatter E. KINGFISHER LOCATION SALVAGED BARN WOOD CLAD OVER AN EXISTING STEEL STRUCTURE IN KINGFISHER, OK.
