40 • THE ARTISAN SUMMER 2024 just elevate the look, and make it that much more memorable. MELISSA SCHEMMENTI PLAYED BY LISA ANN WALTER: Frazier: Melissa's spicy no-nonsense character shines through in her fiery copper red hair. This custom color formation was done by our colorist and key, Dustin Osborne. The vibrant and intense hue reinforces Melissa's passionate personality. The rich multidimensional tones of her red copper hair definitely create the aura of mystery and intrigue around her character; and suggest her quick temper while speaking her mind on school issues and her love life. Dustin uses WOW Dream Coat and Oasis to keep her hair healthy and flowing ready for the screen. Foe: Lisa Ann perfectly embodies the strong and aggressive personality of Melissa. Our key, Jenn Bennett, took a softer approach with her make-up. We wanted to showcase Melissa's femininity since she has such a strong personality. We make sure her skin is extremely hydrated and moisturized, and we blend smokey taupe and sage green shadows on the lid with a razor-sharp black liner. For her lips, we do a silky Pixi lip liner to define her lips, with blush-toned lipsticks and topped with a gloss. JACOB HILL PLAYED BY CHRIS PERFETTI: Foe: Jacob has a fresh youthful glow and Naima Jamal executes Chris's grooming with finesse and a light hand. Chris expressed that he wanted to make sure his complexion wasn't heavy. His look is natural and feels light and feathery. Color-correcting rosacea with fair skin can be challenging but Naima found the winning formula that works perfectly for Chris. MR. JOHNSON PLAYED BY WILLIAM STANFORD DAVIS: Frazier: Now although Mr. Johnson is bald, we like to give him the five-star treatment. We shave him every other day giving him a hot towel treatment and toning his head to be ready for make- up. Foe: We perfect Mr. Johnson's skin and then apply Senna medium/dark palette for spot treatments. This season, Jenn Bennett has taken over Mr. Johnson's grooming. Jenn has continued the formula and followed it to a T. EPISODE 312 - DRAG QUEENS Frazier: Episode 312 is the first time we see drag on Abbott! We had a week to prep WHILE we were filming a whole different episode. We had five drag queens and I was making all their wigs. We created six wigs total in seven days. Each wig took 1.5-2 days to make. Since I was using synthetic hair, it had to be curled and steamed, then I had to let the curls set, so it's a longer process than real hair. For our Kicking Queen, we created a black fro with a silver hair topper. It's five wigs in one. The wigs are stacked. The fro itself is three wigs, the ponytail is another wig, and underneath it we had a fifth wig. Five wigs in one hair style and then we created a sculptured bedazzled piece to go in front of her ponytail. She also had stunts, so we secured her wig so it wouldn't fall. We also created a beautiful red wig for our main queen, Lisa Condo, played by Shea Couleé. She wears this beautiful yellow/black structured jacket, so I put together a synthetic wig and sculpted it with pin curl finger waves. The wig emulates the structure of her jacket and the orange/copper pops on Shea's skin tone and pulls the outfit all together. We also had a third queen that had a beautiful blonde wig that was inspired by '90s RuPaul. It was
