C A S Q U A R T E R L Y I W I N T E R 2 0 2 4 3 Happy holidays from the Cinema Audio Society. For me personally, Thanksgiving is a time when the playback numbers from Addams Family Values run uncontrollably through my head, "Happy, Happy, Turkey Day" and "Eat Me!" I don't recall doing a Hannukah or Christmas movie, so I can't imagine what songs might be associated with those holidays. The big holiday gift is the settling of the industry strikes that went on most of 2023. Hopefully, many of you are either back to work or planning for your upcoming projects. I've chosen to use this time to slowly forget which buttons and switches control useful functions on my sound cart. But I do look forward to seeing the many films and TV shows that have been awaiting completion. With awards season upon us, I look forward to watching many of the projects and award contenders released in 2023. Speaking of awards, our upcoming CAS Awards commemorate our 60th anniversary. We are preparing what I hope to be our best event ever. More details will be announced very soon and the latest update is always available on the awards homepage: https://cinemaaudiosociety.org/60th-cas-awards-information/ Meanwhile, to mark the occasion, the Cinema Audio Society has gathered and digitized a growing assortment of historical documents! A largely complete set of historical award books and CAS Quarterly magazines going back to the '80s and '90s are now digitized and live on the CAS website under the "Publications" dropdown menu. As we move forward, we are working on sharing more photos, videos, and excerpts, including the 1985 retirees' dinner clips! If there are documents or other media in your possession you'd like to add, please contact our office. Finally, you may have noticed a change in the correspondence you receive about your CAS membership. We have adopted a new member platform for billing, communication, and new features. You should have received an email about it on November 20. Be sure to log in to your new account and keep an eye out for new options available now, like a digital membership card (found in your member profile), useful for attending events and screenings. Again, happy holidays, and I hope to see you at the awards! Peter F.
