evolve over the course of four hundred years. Something new was called for. The season one chateau was situated in a picturesque Santa Ynez vineyard, however, filming during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic presented challenges that required the production to think "inside" the box. We needed to create it all on stage. For this, we devised a two-story library, connecting hallways, a courtyard, and a kitchen to maximize the depth while keeping the production on stage. The horseshoe-shaped design allowed each room to overlook the courtyard and seamlessly flow into another part of the set, capturing the vibrant exterior atmosphere within our controlled environment. When viewers first glimpse the chateau in the year 2400, I wanted to convey a sense of Picard's settled life, surrounded by his cherished books and mementos from his past. The design exuded a timeless French traditional aesthetic, with futuristic touches subtly hinting at the era. It was essential to strike a delicate balance, creating a vision of the future while maintaining a connection to the character's rich history. The grand library, with its spiral staircase, thousands of books and carefully placed Easter eggs, became a favorite set for the cast and crew. It not only showcased the evolution of Picard's journey, but also served as a testament to his character development. The solarium, a key element of the chateau, served as a space for significant emotional moments in Picard's life. Collaborating with Art Director Joe Comeau and concept artist Igor Knezevic, we created concept art that embodied its haunting beauty. We meticulously designed the solarium to be an evolving centerpiece. When it is first seen in 2400, it's the only part of the chateau that is unrestored, with broken glass and decay, with a mystery as to why. The story then flashes back to Picard's childhood in 2315, approximately forty years after Captain A. FINAL STARGAZER BRIDGE. SET PHOTO.
