Recycling and the environment have always been a shared passion, and soon we had not only a small group of members involved, but several professionals who have devoted their careers to recycling and sustainability. Enter the newly formed Green Committee of the Art Directors Guild. Grown out of the planning group for a Sustainability Symposium started by Dawn Snyder, Production Designer and Director of the Education Department at the ADG, the Green Committee has a growing list of action items to tackle in order to support this effort and provide resources and education to the wider membership and initiate some positive change to our fragile world. One of our goals is to identify like-minded vendors, individuals, politicians, producers and craftspeople who we can partner with to move this momentum forward. We have just scratched the surface of vendors and business owners who are in the process of developing new, sustainable building and finishing products. This is an exciting industry that will continue to develop rapidly. While we are busy researching the best vendors, products, and circularity practices for the entertainment and advertising industries, we realize the that important first step for folks is, appropriately, education. Knowledge is power, and with that in mind, we planned a symposium on the first sunny Saturday in June with expert speakers, a panel of industry peers, and a parking lot full of vendors and businesses who provide eco-friendly alternatives to "the way it's always been done (for the past several decades)." Being able to book speakers who are pioneers of the sustainable filmmaking movement was critical to the planning of this symposium, so we were absolutely thrilled when our keynote speakers, Emellie O'Brien from Earth Angel and Laura Friedman, CA Assemblymember, 44th District accepted our invitations. Emellie O'Brien is the Founder and CEO of Earth Angel and has worked on over one hundred major motion pictures and television series to reduce their environmental impact since 2011. Her speech B C D
