were then Lidar scanned, providing comprehensive color, texture and proportional reference for VFX to generate the full environment, including props and foliage. Additionally, they made a 1:12 scale set (Weird Barbie) that was shot in a more traditional miniatures way. Graphics Alicia Martin, the set decoration graphic artist, and her team had such a treat designing this world. On Katie's and my films, the graphics department falls under set decoration, and Katie has such an amazing humorous and witty rapport with them. They really do build a world within worlds; a sea with no water is like a book with no pages and headlamps without light. Decal genius—this is what graphics brought to it. I particularly love Alicia's work, but a special shout-out for what she did in the world of the miniatures: busy town street, the beach drive, etc.; so much fun was had by them and when it is done so well, it just perfectly completes the world. Like all graphics on a film, their contribution is massive. The three departments and all their encompassing talents—art, set decoration and graphics—we were all so well looked after, managed, consoled, fed and watered by our wonderful coordinator, Tamara Caitlin-Birchalways. We always have to come together in a cohesive way for a film to work, but on this one, with the color, the amount of manufacturing and painting on all sides, it was more imperative than ever to be hand in hand.
