FIELD SERVICES As summer is in full swing, we hope you can spend time resting, recharging, and doing what is good for your soul. As we reflect on another challenging school year, it is important to remember just how much of a positive impact you have had on the students of Iowa. Students enter our public schools and community colleges each day knowing they will be greeted by motivated, caring, and supportive staff. No elected official in Des Moines can take that away from you. You deserve so much more respect and support than you get. Know your union family within ISEA stands with you. Looking for things to do this summer and want to support union workers? Well, we have some ideas! Cookouts, coffee and can of corn Attend a minor league baseball game! This past year, minor league baseball players voted to unionize and demand better pay and working conditions. The players ratified their own collective bargaining agreement that vastly improves their salary and benefits. Iowa has several minor league ball clubs across the state. Take your family, support your local economy and newly unionized players. If you are in Iowa City, drop by the newly unionized Starbucks located downtown. Workers there unanimously approved forming their own union in May making it the first Iowa Starbucks to unionize. Attending a cookout or throwing a party this summer? Support your union sisters and brothers who produce food and products for just that. To find a list of food and beverages, click on the QR code. Finally, if you are doing some traveling and are looking for discounts, remember as an NEA member you have complete access to NEA Member Benefits. Go to www.neamb.com/ to see everything available to you. We hope you have a restful summer and know that if you need anything, please reach out to our ISEA staff for assistance. Rest, recharge, and support our union colleagues by Coy Marquardt, associate executive director of field services coy.marquardt@isea.org
