ATLANTA TRAINING 12 C I N E M O N T A G E A R O U N D T H E G U I L D In November, the Guild sponsored a two-day Avid workshop in Atlanta to help members there keep their work skills up to date. The workshop was held in the IATSE Local 479 education conference room and was led by New York-based assistant editor Louis Armistead. Th e h a n d s - o n w o r k s h o p re v i e w e d b e s t p ra c t i ce s fo r e f f i c i e n t a ss i s ta n t editor workflows on scripted projects. It was uniquely rewarding, Armistead s a i d l a t e r, t o c o n n e c t w i t h A t l a n t a members while sharing workflows and strategies he had learned from his varied narrative project experiences in film and streaming television. " I t i s re a s s u r i n g t o k n o w t h a t w e have the backing of the New York local union," one attendee commented. "I am op- timistic for the future. The instructor was excellent; he made the lesson entertaining and relaxed." For the Guild, the training session is an indicator of growth. "It's significant that the membership numbers in Atlanta have grown large enough to warrant holding this training," said Cathy Repola, the Na- tional Executive Director of Local 700.
