Sound + Vision The catalyst for Space Exploration was born of CD Stacy Ellen Rich's desire to get her ever-changing workspace in order. She'd always felt deeply charged by adorning her work environment. Whether on location or at home and no matter the size of space, Rich displays created and col- lected objets d'art. When in town she relishes her work/ cutting table and converted shadow box à la tool display. Both pieces were built by her audio engineering spouse who shares the space, so it also houses a pro sound booth and audio console. Music and fashion are a constant pas- sion in Rich's world, and it shows. Glorious relics hang in homage to her uncle's boutique, Jeans & Things, founded in St. Louis circa 1975. On the deck flow waves of queen of the universe Grace Jones to Fresh Air as the show brings Rich back down to earth when facing deadlines. Other highlights include a Leee Black Childers signed print of singers David Johansen and Jayne County and an original Fiorucci shopping bag. Must haves on the table and on the road include a collection of pyrite for unbound creativ- ity, a hearty stock of inks and pencils plus dossier-esque notebooks, and a most loved photograph of herself and beyond-her-wildest-dreams luminary, Chita Rivera, for whom Rich designed years ago. Rivera gifted her a lock- et and a die cut card of Glenda the Good Witch from The Wizard of Oz upon which Rivera scribed, "From One Good Witch to Another, Love Chita." 84 THE COSTUME DESIGNER | WINTER 2023
