"If you don't have a seat at the table you are on the menu" says Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass. The CDG membership is aware of the importance of having a seat at the table. The IATSE is only as strong as its membership participation. We are the change we want to see. As a CDG member each of us can add our participation in our own way. It's the little things we do every day that make the big things happen. The most pivotal decade in the fight against glob- al warming is upon us. Our democratic republic was founded on a Constitution before the earth's population reached one billion around 1812. Hu- man population reached 8 billion in November 2022. It is projected the earth can sustain a popu- lation of around 10 billion. California law requires drastic reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and eventually eliminating the state's carbon footprint. The California Air Resources Board released its climate plan to reduce emis- sions by 48% in this decade and 85% by 2045. The world's fifth largest economy will increase zero-emissions vehicles, wind, and solar power energy resources so consumer demand for nat- ural gas and petroleum drop 86% in the next 23 years. The Los Angeles County Board of Super- visors created a new county department aimed at helping local communities feeling the effects of warming climate and industrial pollution. The Environmental Justice and Climate Health De- partment will address environmental pollution and be a carve-out of the County's Department of Public Health. California is a leader investing in a carbon free future. California has a plan to reduce global warming but that takes all of us exercising our freedom of choice in our daily lives. Our dollars are our loud- est voice buying food, transportation products, housing, education, and health care. As a CDG member each of us can add our participation in our own way. It's the little things we do every day that make the big things happen.
