I understand the concerns of each person on the team. During my presidency, I designed seven feature films, five TV shows, including the Emmy-nominated The Mindy Show, and 15 commercials. At one point I was designing two films and a TV series, with presidential duties, during a pandemic." Perez was very hands on, attending hun- dreds of meetings throughout the years and answering member emails and calls personally. As is defined by the CDG constitution, he also sat as the co-chair of ev- ery committee. "We have many committees now like Pay Equity doing meaningful work for our membership. Deb- orah Landis shook us up, she's been talking about pay equity for 20 years, she was the right person for the time. But it's a different world now, more is expected of us and we are able to do more. I give a lot of credit to my prede- cessors: Deborah, Cliff, Jacqueline, and Mary for showing me that one of us could make such a difference." When asked about his legacy, Perez had several ideas but none more important than the CDG building. After many discussions with the board, he finally garnered their sup- port. Inspired by the suite of designer offices at Warner Bros., Perez wanted a meeting place to commune with other members. "The building is an asset," he says, "but I also wanted that camaraderie we feel at the mall or stu- dio services, to meet with other designers and get their feedback. I saw how we fed off each other and wondered how do we get that for the entire guild?" Perez wanted it all—a centralized location in close proximity to the stu- dios, abundant parking, and a place for meetings and parties. "I think that when we get together, we inspire each other. It wasn't just buying a building, but having a place that's our own," he adds. Additionally, rather than losing money on rent, member's dues are invested in a building that will be paid off by 2030."
