Supporting the Arts S AG-AFTRA Los Angeles Local Board member and Vice Chair of Los Angeles Local GAPP Committee Sean Astin joined the San Pedro community on Oct. 1 to bring awareness and support to Proposition 28 by visiting businesses to ask them to place signs in their windows supporting their efforts. Proposition 28, which was passed by California voters in November, will dedicate nearly $1 billion annually to arts and music education in public schools and is accompanied by strong accountability and transparency measures. According to supporters, it is the largest investment in arts and music education in the country. The proposition does not create any new taxes, and there was no organized opposition to it. ● Members Honored for Anti-Harassment Efforts L os Angeles Local Sexual Harassment Prevention Committee Chair Pamela Guest and committee members Lili Bernard and Shannon Bobo were honored during the 2022 PAVE Inspiration Awards Sept. 25 at Raleigh Studios, and the event was streamed nationwide. The organization, which works nationally and internationally to prevent sexual violence and help survivors heal, recognized 21 survivors and advocates for their work to support survivors and fight harassment and assault. The Los Angeles Sexual Harassment Prevention Committee works in collaboration with national and local committees to advocate for legislative change and industry-specific initiatives and activities that prevent workplace harassment. ● For assistance and resources, visit sagaftrasafeplace.org. New York Local Holds First-Ever Virtual Member Orientation T he SAG-AFTRA New York Local held its first-ever virtual member orientation meeting on July 15. The meeting included a presentation by New York Local Vice President and Member Outreach, Relations and Education Committee Chair Linda Powell, and New York Local Board and MORE Committee members Marc Baron and Sarah Seeds. SAG-AFTRA New York Local President Ezra Knight and New York Local Executive Director Rebecca Damon welcomed members to the orientation. Topics covered included contracts, benefits of membership, ways to get involved and how to make the most of your SAG-AFTRA membership. Staff was also on hand to answer questions about the Commercials and Corporate/Educational and Non-Broadcast Contracts, Entertainment Contracts and field services. The orientation concluded with a Q&A session with the members. ● New York
