102 SAG-AFTRA | Fall/Winter 2022 | News from Locals Across the Country S AG-AFTRA members joined their brothers, sisters and kin at Labor Day parades across the nation to honor and celebrate the value of work. One of the largest took place in the Big Apple, where, on Sept. 10, members marched up 5th Avenue at the New York City Central Labor Council's annual New York City Labor Day Parade and March. With the theme of "Workers Leading, Workers Rising," it was the first time the parade took place since September of 2019. According to the NYC-CLC, the event included 80,000 marchers representing more than 200 unions, and 26,000 spectators cheering on from the sidewalks. This year, SAG-AFTRA was joined by the Hip-Hop Alliance, which seeks to educate hip-hop and R&B artists about fair labor practices. Elsewhere, members made their voices heard in Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Chicago and Buffalo, New York, again demonstrating that when workers join together, great things happen.
