BASED LOOSELY ON THE LANTERNS ATOP A NUMBER OF CHURCH AND CATHEDRAL DOMES, THE DRAWING USED REVIT'S BUILT-IN COMBINATION OF DRAFTING, MODELING AND BUILDING INFORMATION MANAGEMENT FEATURES. A PRESENTATION SKETCH BY ILLUSTRATOR NATHAN SCHROEDER OF THE THRONE ROOM FOR THOR. "I STUDIED EVERY FRAME OF EVERY THOR COMIC DRAWN BY KIRBY," SAYS PRODUCTION DESIGNER BO WELCH, "AND DISTILLED HIS FORM LANGUAGE, STRIPPED OUT THE COLOR AND ADDED A METALLIC SKIN TO THE ARCHITECTURE AKIN TO GEHRY'S MORE RECENT BUILDINGS." THE ROOM WAS BUILT ON STAGE AT MARVEL STUDIOS IN MANHATTAN BEACH, CA. #32. The work of Set Designers is always a challenge to feature in the magazine, just because of the real estate needed to present it at a size that does it justice. This elevation by Steve Shkolnik for the Universal backlot was the first cover to feature a drafting example. #36. This is the first Comic-Con-themed issue, an effort by the ADG to promote the work of members in the sci-fi/fantasy films that rely on the imaginations of designers to create their worlds. The Comic-Con issue has been part of the PERSPECTIVE summer schedule ever since. (Barring the COVID year the convention was shut down.)
