forth on this a few times and even had to pull one F squadron out of retirement. The lack ces of F were an easy call for Phoenix. This was a squadron that Chaser eithley had led during his service and he had female pilots under his command. The deck of cards looked really great behind the strap of the goggles and I only did one other option for contrast on the top of the helmet. Finding a complementary helmet for her SO ob proved di cult. e could not fi nd another redblack color combination. I fi nally found an F squadron called F, the Screaming Eagles, that used a redblack color, but they had been disestablished since . I spoke with our military advisors and liaisons, and they had no issues with the squadron being revived for the fi lm. dditionally, the Screaming Eagles were one of the decals on Maverick's Nina motorcycle used in both Top Gun fi lms, so it added some continuity. Payback and Fanboy were our next tandem group. Payback was assigned to F, the Rough Raiders. There was plenty of research with the iking logo of F, but nothing with horns on the helmet. I took a literal iking helmet approach on this design. Fanboy was a lot of fun since it gave an opportunity to infuse another famous franchise that I had worked on. Nothing says Fanboy like Star Trek, and there was not another typeface even up for discussion. Star Trek is also a ParamountCS property, art coordinator eather Elwell worked with Melissa endricks at Paramount for approvals. fter being approved to use the Star Trek typeface on the helmet, the next tandem was Fritz and A.
