When Powell High School Panther Cheer Team Assistant Coach Cindy Jacobs learned about the Thomas R. Brown Athletics Grant, she knew it could help support her team. "I felt like this grant was a wonderful opportunity to help the cheerleading team with expenses as budget constraints were happening in the district," Jacobs told WEA News. Jacobs says the grant funds will pay for music, competition entry fee s, and meals when the team is traveling to and from competitions. Jacobs says the grant will provide well-deserved support for her hard-working team. "Cheer season for Powell High School runs from the middle of August to the middle of March," she said. "These kids have to be very dedicated to their sport in order to persevere through such a long season." Jacobs says students love being part of a team, a nd teamwork amongst staff members is also essential to supporting the team's success. "I love working with the kids. It is a blessing to help them grow into stronger athletes and young adults," she said. "The head coach, Vicki Walsh, has been in her position for 20+ years and serves as a great role model and mentor. I wouldn't be coaching if she wasn't doing it with me." When asked how she feels about her grant award, Jacobs said, "We feel very blessed to have been awarded this grant. Thank you so much for supporting the athletes in the great state of Wyoming!"
