The production rented two subway cars and used them for several different time periods. The train car of choice was an 32. The vintage 32 cars still run on subway lines, so we could match the stage cars to ones shot practically running on tracks within the subway system. We converted the two cars into several versions for different time periods, using various methods of augmentation. hanging the ads that line the inside of the cars was the simplest of methods and a uick indicator of time change. A mixture of real ads from the 1960s, 190s, and present day were used, as well as invented ads, planted aster eggs, referring back to season one. To match the rented stage cars, older than the cars still traversing subway lines, the crew had to remove strap hangers, add poles, add window plugs, to match shape, add die cut foam inserts to match the bench seats and skin the subway car doors. It was a huge effort, and I applaud my team for the success! To achieve the most realistic immersive tunnel environment possible for the stage cars to move through. LD panels were used instead of green screen. With 120 feet of subway car to contend with, the LD walls needed to be massive; 360 tiles constituting approximately linear feet per side, rows high, 4 columns long. It was an incredible education and exciting experience diving into the pool of this new technology. Off to Budapest The season ended with a 13-day shoot in Budapest. ne of the most magnificent uropean cities I have ever toured, Budapest boasts noteworthy architecture, diverse in style and period, that spans several millennia from ancient oman structures to modern feats of glass and steel; a fitting end for a show that spans decades. Nadia's family history takes us to Budapest, but the intoxicating locations discovered there inspired and drove the storyline to completion. My first time both visiting and shooting in Budapest proved to be uite an adventure. An ancient underground cistern galvanized the scenes where Nadia and Alan float in no time. A dicult undertaking involving SFX rigs, divers with scuba gear and folks in wet suits standing in some very cold cave water for hours, but the result was magic. A brutalist building earmarked for demolition served as the perfect location for Alan's grandmother Agnes' ast erman dormitory. Its E F G
