sections. In addition, they were hand-colored, making them more real and original. These interiors could not have happened without the set decorators, Rena DeAngelo for episode one and two, and Rich Devine on three through twelve. Palettes were selected for each character to follow them through the entire series. We implemented a completely di erent take on furniture. For the half-percenters—the characters in the half-percent in terms of wealth —the palettes ranged from bronzes and a very cold sense of order to very warm old Paris. Audrey is very Parisian in her sensibility, so for her space, there are a lot of pastels and silk wallpapers, a lot of patterns. It's on the verge of being kitschy, but it's still very elegant. It's the space of a character who's living in the past. Obie's loft is three oors of a very austere space. He lives there alone, but his German parents made the loft, so everything there connotes their Germanic roots and enormous wealth. That's what's important and true about that character. Obie's apartment is stoic—the space is very clean and seems almost empty. But interiors can get boring after a while, which is why the show worked with curators for another layer of details. We researched the artwork that such a family might have, so every artist is German except one. (There is a Christian Marclay video installation piece.) We hung paintings by Neo Rauch and Candida Hofer. We chose artwork for all the spaces to re ect the characters by working with Culture Corps and curator Jenny Mushkin Goldman, who curated art for each individual set based on the character's profi le.
