S vad P ez In solidarity, Salvador erez sperezcdgia.com hoto elly Serfoss P UN oN LABEL After two years of dealing with COID, the virus has made us change the way we work, but it has also made us stronger. The pandemic has shown us that we are capable of working under ever-changing conditions. It has also brought us closer to our colleagues, as we face the same challenges. Although we don't get to socialize as much, I feel that COID has bonded us in a way that we will look back on with pride at our resiliency. With the need for so much content on streaming channels, the industry is busier than ever. Every day I get a call from a costume designer need- ing a crew. Finding a good costume supervisor was always a challenge, but now that's even harder. An excellent cutter/fi tter or ager/dyer is worth their weight in gold. With so many opportunities to design, having a great crew is paramount. We need to support our brothers, sisters, and kin in 0 and other sister locals. They are the backbone of the costume depart- ment and we can't do our job without them. Due to the large volume of work in town, we see younger designers get- ting the opportunity to shine. I remember costume designing my fi rst fi lm Soul Food after assisting for years. Having mentors I could call when I had uestions was always an asset. As new members, you have an entire community of mentors to call on. Reach out to a designer you may know, or call the CDG o ce, they can always refer you to someone who may have insight into your issue. We need to all support each other. It makes us stronger as a community. We are so excited to be celebrating the art of costume design at our awards on arch 9, 2022. We will be honoring the amazing Sharen Da- vis with the CDG Career Achievement Award. We will be reinventing our awards show, I know it will be an unforgettable evening. Congratulations to the nominees and all of the incredible work they represent. Rachael Stanley has retired from her position at the CDG, and we wish her well as she moves into the next chapter of her life. We welcome Brigitta Romanov as our new Executive Director. After working with Rachael for the last fi ve years, she brings a wealth of knowledge to her new position. Also, we are so excited to welcome our new Assistant Executive Director Doug Boney. He brings a fresh perspective to our organization, as well as his vast experience working with the IA. We are building a powerful team to take the CDG to greater heights. Finally, when I heard Bob ackie was releasing a book of his designs, The Art of Bob ackie, I immediately preordered one. The book is one of my favorite costume books ever. What an amazing career Bob has hadall costume designers, assistant costume designers, and illustrators should add his book to their collection. 7
