Live from France, location professionals THOMAS DE SAMBI and VALERIE SECOND were visibly overjoyed. "I cannot believe you—it's incredible!" said De Sambi. "I want to thank all my team!" Period television reclaims remnants of the past for stories that take us back in time. Whether its Chicago playing for 1950's Kansas City (Fargo), 1980's Los Angeles (Snowfall), 1890's London (The Nevers), the Central Coast of post-war California (Ratched), or the castles and estates of the UK during the Regency period (Bridgerton) or a more recent one (The Crown), the modern landscape in every detail must disappear and re-emerge as another era. Actor Joel de la Fuente (Hemlock Grove, Law & Order: SVU, The Man in the High Castle) presented the award for OUTSTANDING LOCATIONS IN PERIOD TELEVISION to Season 4 of THE CROWN. LM MARK WALLEDGE was recognized for the opulent and humble locations in the UK and LM TATE ARÁEZ GUZMÁN/LMGI for the exotic locales in Spain, where the destinations of the Royals on tour for the empire—from the Sahara Desert to the Caribbean—were depicted. "Fantastic and addictive shows like these were lifesavers," said Leslie Fara (Lovers, Pretty Little Liars), referring to 2020 as the year we spent on the couch in sweats, in front of the TV, as she introduced the nominees for OUTSTANDING LOCATIONS IN LIMITED SERIES OR ANTHOLOGY. Whether hanging out with Liza and fashion icon Halston at Studio 54 during the heady days of New York in the '60s and '70s (Halston), following a murder investigation in a rust belt Pennsylvania town (Mare of Easttown), tracking a killer along the hippie trail in '70s Thailand and Hong Kong (The Serpent), taking a brutal journey with an escaped slave in America's deep south in the mid-1800s (The Underground Railroad), embroiled in a post-apocalyptic battle between good and evil in the Western US as depicted in Canada's British Columbia (Stephen King's The Stand), or watching a brilliant young woman making her moves off and on the chess board (The Queen's Gambit), these extended stories engaged us when we needed them most. The award went to THE QUEEN'S GAMBIT, which aside from a few days lming in Ontario, Canada, to match American exteriors, the journey of a chess prodigy from rural Kentucky to Cincinnati, Las Vegas, Mexico City, Paris and Moscow in the '60s was beautifully realized in Berlin. DAVID PIEPER/LMGI accepted the award—live from Berlin—on behalf of fellow recipients STEFAN WÖHLEKE, MATT GRAVER/LMGI and FRED KAMPING. "Thank you LMGI for this great event!" he said from behind a strategically placed chess board! Actor John Brotherton (Fuller House, Furious 7, The Conjuring) introduced OUTSTANDING LOCATIONS IN A PERIOD FILM affecting a British accent for nominees he assumed would represent " ne British drama!"
