Its collections extend well beyond the works of art and sculpture to be found in the Amercian Art Musuem, The Fleischman Gallery, the Hirshhorn, Freer and the National Portrait Gallery. It also has rich resourses to explore natural history and the American past. There are two air and space museums, a museum of industry, the National Museum of Natural History, the new National Museum of African American History and Culture, and even a Postal Museum. The website is organized to introduce each arm of the institution, with a Collections Sampler featuring the highlights of the collection with detailed information on each item. Most of the images can be downloaded as high-resolution images directly from this detail page. The explore tab will take the viewer to pages featuring Art & Design, History & Culture, and Science & Nature. For in-depth research, the entire collection can be searched (be prepared for many thousands of results) and there are links to the websites of each individual museum, which off er een more detailed resources from the collections.
