PRODUCTS www.postmagazine.com 32 POST NOV/DEC 2021 ROKOKO RELEASES NEXT- GENERATION MOCAP SUIT COPENHAGEN, DENMARK — Rokoko (www.rokoko.com), a developer of motion-capture technology for independent creators, has updated its flagship product, the Smartsuit Pro. The next generation Smartsuit Pro II suit enables users to animate characters in realtime via a simple wifi connec- tion to their computer running the company's free Rokoko Studio software. Creators can record, clean and edit the data quickly, as well as stream it live into dozens of tools, including Unreal, Unity, Blender, Maya and iClone for instantaneous feedback. Smartsuit Pro II is currently available for pre-order for $2,745, with delivery expected in January. Rokoko Studio is available as a free download for both Mac and Windows. Setting up the Smartsuit Pro II is simple, and the suit can be used anywhere. The new version features per- formance upgrades to enhance characters with richer movement, while speeding up the entire animation workflow. Upgrades include elevation tracking, which allows for tracking of movement on stairs, ladders and along the y-axis. The new suit has been optimized for high-im- pact use, so punching, fighting and falling will not compromise data quality. There is now better locomotion accuracy over time, reducing drift and resulting in more reliable and longer streaming times. In ad- dition, there is now native integration into the Rokoko Smartgloves, so only one por- table USB-C battery is required to power the entire motion-capture system. WACOM RELEASES PORTABLE CINTIQ PRO 16 PEN DISPLAY PORTLAND, OR — Wacom's (wacom.com) new Cintiq Pro 16 creative pen display combines the company's most natural and precise pen performance into a sleek and portable form factor. The Cintiq Pro 16's sleek and thin design makes it easy to slip into a laptop bag or backpack for today's digital content creators, who find themselves moving between work locations and comput- ers on a regular basis. The 16's latest touch-screen technology offers better performance over previous generations, and the option to use the pen and multi-touch together is still available for artists who want to use their fingers to pinch, zoom and rotate imagery. Eight ExpressKeys — four on each side — are provided for integrating and customizing keyboard shortcuts and modifiers. Wacom's Pro Pen 2 delivers four times greater accuracy and pressure sensitivity than the previous Pro Pen, with lag-free tracking on an anti-glare, etched glass surface that emulates the natural feel and feedback of a traditional pen or brush. In addition, optical bonding greatly reduces parallax for better performance when working with fine lines or details. The Cintiq Pro 16 is compatible with both Mac and PC computers, and features Ultra HD 4K resolution (3840x2160) through either USB-C or HDMI connectivity. The device delivers vivid colors with 98 percent Adobe RGB. Pricing is $1,499.95. ASSIMILATE'S LIVE FX NOW IN OPEN BETA SAN JOSE, CA — Assimilate (www.assimilateinc.com) recently announced an open beta for its Live FX software, which enables realtime, live compositing for green-screen and LED wall-based virtual productions on-set. Live FX is also designed for creating quick comps when scouting locations. It features the latest technology in keying, camera tracking, DMX light control, Notch Block integration, and a live link to Unreal Engine. This can simplify on-set virtual production for previsualization, as well as final pixel for in-camera VFX. By re- cording incoming dynamic metadata, along with the imagery, Live FX can au- tomatically prep content for VFX/post. Filmmakers and artists can now work in a familiar film/video workflow rather than in a programming-style environment. Live FX supports a broad range of tracking systems for a variety of on-set situations, such as indoor, outdoor, big stage or small set, tethered or unteth- ered. To track camera movement, Live FX allows the use of Intel RealSense tracking cameras, Mo-Sys StarTracker, HTC Vive trackers, and even gyro and ARKit technology inside smartphones mounted to the cinema camera. Even without a dedicated tracking device, Live FX is able to create camera tracks using its own live-tracking algorithm. All tracking data can be refined and synced to the incoming live camera signal, so all data stays in sync through- out the entire pipeline. Through its built-in virtual camera calibration, Live FX is able to calculate lens distortion and create final composites live on-set. To participate in the open beta, visit the Assimilate web- page and click the "Try" button for Live FX. Assimilate also has a Live FX tutorial series to help pros get up to speed quickly.
