of the process of building out a studio for Atmos. With Dante solutions from Focusrite and easy-to-calibrate speaker systems from Genelec, it has never been easier to get into Atmos. For me personally, the most exciting panel was the last of the day titled The Recent Advancements of Sony's 360 Virtual Mixing Environment Technology. The folks from Sony had fi rst introduced this technology during the 2020 Mix Sound for Film & TV and it sounds like in the last year, they have been busy. For anyone not familiar with the technology, it allows a mixer or fi lmmaker to sit in one of the stages at Sony and have them create a model of how they personally hear in that room and then go home (or to an edit suite down the hall) and be able to hear back a mix and have it sound like they are still on the stage. From having to mix at home or having a director review mixes from home, the technology makes it easier to work from anywhere. The only downside to this technology is that it is currently only available for internal use at Sony. Surely part of the limitation being that you have to currently sit in the space to create a model/tuning unique to them. My hope is that one day the technology will become commercially available as I will be at the front of the cue to get a copy. More than anything, I hope that next year we can again all gather in person for the next Mix event. However, the silver lining of the event being online is that all the panels, at least at the time of this article's writing, are available on-demand for you to watch at home. Visit https://mixsoundforfi lm.vfairs .coMy Reviewm/ to register and access the event on-demand today! Mix magazine editor Tom Kenny introduced keynote guest speakers, supervising sound editor and sound designer Wylie Stateman and Thomas Dolby currently teaching at the Peabody Conservatory at Johns Hopkins. Executive Vice President, Post Production Facilities, at Sony Pictures Entertainment Tom McCarthy talked about The Recent Advancements of Sony's 360 Virtual Mixing Environment Technology.
