These last to ears have been intense. e have dealt ith a global an demic, a surge in ork, and a turbulent contract rati cation. e can onl hoe that 2022 brings things back to normal, or at least hat normal should be, as some change is needed. After a long and arduous contract negotiation, e rati ed our IATSE con tract ith the AMT. The vote as almost eual on both sides, hich shos ho divided the membershi is. Both 892 and 05 voted no on the contract, hich tells us that there are man issues that e deal ith in the costume deartment that other deartments do not. Even though I advised e vote for this contract, I kno there is more e need to ght for. But as man have said, its better to be emloed hile ghting this battle, as a strike had no guarantee of success. And historicall, strikes dont alas end ith gains. e have seen that e can make the changes haen even ithout contract language. e have seen costume designers, assistant costume designers and costume illustrators increasing their rates b demanding a euit. hen e all ask for the same things, it is harder for roducers to sa no. e ant to see cultural changes in the industr, so e need to start ask ing and imlementing them until the become common ractice. ust ve ears ago, costume deartment coordinators ere rare, but no, roducers are budgeting for them. e arent going to change the indus tr overnight, but e must change ho e ork so e can continue to do the obs e love. The kee asking for more from us and e alas deliver it no matter hat. e need to start asking for more hel to do it. If e have to ork a eekend to get it done, a us for the eekend, sto giving them our time. e are sending out a surve to get more inut from the membershi, and e ill be hosting roundtable discussions to hear our needs. e are go ing to make sure ever voice is heard and oined together into a massive roar that cannot be ignored. e are saing goodbe to our eecutive director, achael Stanle. After 1 ears at the CDG, she is looking forard to the net chater in her life. I cant ait to see hat she does net. achael is one of the reasons I have been on the Board for so long. I asnt going to run for another term as a Board eecutive member until she came to visit me on set and convinced me I still had more to do. I ran for resident because of the talks e had about ho e anted to change the CDG. e nall bought a building, e gre our magazine, e brought in Brigitta omanov as our assistant eecutive director, and to one da take over as eecutive director. The have orked together to run the CDG for the last ve ears, so no the transition ill be seamless. Im ecited to see Brigitta hel us continue to gro. e are gearing u for the CDGA in March of 2022. There is so much amaz ing costume design ork e ant to celebrate, and e look forard to seeing ou all in erson after last ears virtual aards sho. I ish ou all ha holidas and a roserous and health ne ear.
