Poker, from its inception, has always been a game shrouded in mystery. From the card sharks of the wild- west to the poker pros of the contemporary circuit, there have always been those opponents dreaded for their deft skill and wily know how. But even some of the "best" have fallen to the "legendary". Only those who still bring chills to the spines of competitors can truly be called the Legends of Poker. So who then would grace the list of the top 5 poker players of all time? Players known for their wit the world round, who've been known to win with the feeblest of hands. I'm talking about the myths with such a poker face they could sell a popsicle to an Eskimo. Here they are, in no particular order, in all of their glory: Johnny Moss- Often thought of as the man who started it all, Johnny Moss is usually considered the poker legend. Moss was born in Marshall, Texas, in 1907 but grew up in Dallas, where he learned how to gamble as a young boy at the hands of a group of cheaters. These grifters taught him how to cheat in games but instead of following in their footsteps, Moss put this knowledge to good use and as a teenager worked for a local saloon to watch over games and make sure they were played fairly. While he was keeping games safe from cheaters, he also was learning the strategy behind playing poker, a skill he would later hone to perfection. In 1949, Moss played with Nick the Greek, another well known pro of the time, in a five month long "heads up" poker marathon where he reportedly won between $2 and $4 million. This became the foundation for Al Alvarez's book The Biggest Game in Town before later becoming the game often cited as the inspiration behind the WSOP. 8 LIVEMAGS.NET AUGUST>>10
