14 • LMGI COMPASS | Spring 2021 Submissions are now being accepted for the 8th Annual LMGI Awards. Due to the success of last year's event, the awards will once again be presented virtually. This year's gala is slated for October 23, 2021. Honoring the artistic contribution that location pros make to the creative process of feature film, TV, film and commercial production, the Guild looks for projects where the locations are an integral part of the story. They provide clues to character, set the mood, and help motivate the action. "Hopefully, LMs and scouts will submit their own work for recognition. Who knows better why they scouted where, and how the final locations were selected," says John Rakich/ LMGI, this year's Awards Committee Chair. "They know best what they brought to the table as part of that creative and collaborative conversation. We hope the submissions will reflect that." "Due to lockdown, we all had time to watch more movies and binge more series than ever before. And there are so many complex and intriguing international shows and movies that are available on the streaming networks!" says Diane Friedman, a Sub-Committee Co-chair. "So, we are excited to receive entries from fans, too. "You can volunteer in so many ways, depending on the time you have. You can be a watcher, help curate the entries, do the write-ups, and also vote for the finalists. You get to meet colleagues who are working all across the U.S., Canada, Europe, Asia, China—anywhere movies, commercials and TV are being filmed." "We are all curious about where everything has been shot," says Jill Naumann/ LMGI, who has been a member of the TV Sub-Committee for the past three years. "We cannot help ourselves! This process is a deep dive into the best shows and where they are filmed. The global friendships that I have made transcends all cultural and language barriers. For me, that is the best part of being on the committee!"
