newcomers who could walk the wall to get a sense of the look of the whole movie. Two challenging locations were the bargain clothing store and the pharmacy, and though they were far from each other, they were scheduled to shoot back to back. The bargain store was an enormous dress to achieve in a limited timeframe. The existing exterior awning was lackluster and needed to be augmented with a facade piece, as well as new signage. All that could be built in the mill and installed during the day, but the interior redress of an existing thrift store had to be done during limited hours overnight. To get the biggest bang for the buck, the crew focused on redressing the hero aisles for specific shots and cull out all items and colors outside of the film's palette for high, wide shots in the mirrors. The original idea for the pharmacy location was a suburban '0s shopping center with a parking lot for a shot that Julia had in mind as an homage to a scene in Thief, but after scouring many such shopping centers, it was proving too cost- prohibitive. One pharmacy was found whose interior worked well but the exterior wasn't what was hoped for. However, by pushing the camera position out to the edge of the road, the desired effect could be cheated. Fortunately, director of photography Bryce Fortner is a great collaborator and was on board with the idea. The production built our own illuminated signage and dressed the interior with period product made by the art and set dressing teams pulling together. E F G H
