In 2019, as host of the Grammy Awards, Keys paid a short tribute to Hazel Scott, introducing her name to many viewers who had never heard of her. In a segment that opened with her seated between two pianos, like Scott often did, Keys played a section of Scott Joplin's famous Maple Leaf Rag, while declaring, "I've been thinking so much about the people and the music that have inspired me, and I want to give a shout-out to Hazel Scott, because I have always wanted to play two pianos." To coincide with what would have been Scott's 100th birthday on June 11, 2020, numerous celebrations and remembrances were planned for last year, but were postponed until 2022, her son told SAG-AFTRA. In addition, a documentary focusing on Scott is in the works, he said.
