34 I M PS E . O R G of Sound Operations. Bill's mixing earned him Oscar nominations for Dune (1984) and Back to the Future (1985) ... and two Academy Awards for The Empire Strikes Back (1980) and Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981). Bill passed away in 2002. His daughter Lisa, who worked alongside her father for many years, is one of our Board members at the museum. She has entrusted his two Oscars, as well as many personal items and photographs from Bill's career, to the museum, which will be displayed in a place of honor. BECAUSE OF THE CURRENT CONDITIONS IN THE WORLD, our plans to create a real brick-and-mortar location for the museum have been thwarted. But it still is very much our plan in the future when things return to something close to "normal." Until then, we are beginning to build our content online. We have been soliciting subscriptions on the website Patreon, where we have begun sharing our content ... including a short-form audio series called Soundbites, where we briefl y feature an individual sound subject in each episode. Most importantly, we have begun having regular hour- long interactive webinars since September, where our members can watch a live chat with sound professionals and interact by submitting questions—and have access to all of them in our archives while they are subscribed. So far, we have had chats with director Joe Dante, sound designer Mark Mangini, Foley artist Alyson Dee Moore, sound editor David Stone, sound designer Gary Rydstrom … and many more. I am very grateful to the Motion Picture Sound Editors for their invitation to write this column to keep you updated on the museum's development, and to share the stories behind the items we've collected. We have some great stories to tell! I am especially appreciative of all the fans and supporters of the museum who have made donations and shared encouragement toward our progress to make the museum a reality. Thank you! Keep listening! If you would like to subscribe to The Hollywood Sound Museum on Patreon to join our webinars, or if you would like to make a donation directly to our efforts developing the museum—visit HollywoodSoundMuseum.org for all the links ... or contact us by email: HwdSoundMuseum@gmail.com The award-winning crew of Raiders of the Lost Ark.
