others competing in improbable All Star heats and assisted by PWCs for maximum rippage. The US Open sponsors, chiefly Hurley for the past two years, designed the All Star event to honor the surfers who've done the most for the sport and to give the fans a chance to see them plying their trade side by side in the process. This year's eight fan-chosen All Stars will also be honored on stage and spend time signing autographs. This event takes place on top of the main event, giving double the opportunity to see the world's best in the water. Converse, one of the US Open's main sponsors, takes this year's prize for the event with the coolest name: The Converse Coastal Carnage Skate Competition. The CCC is a three -day mini bowl jam, featuring one of the most original skate bowls in the world. Over $75K in prize money will be divided out for the 35 world -class skaters in the bowl, making this a significant win for all the riders involved. Alongside the Converse Coastal Carnage is Nike 6.0's HB BMX Pro. This event, voted the pros' favorite, draws the world's best BMX riders and the sport's legends. Icons like Scotty Cranmer and Dean Dhers will compete alongside top riders like Garrett Reynolds and Brett Banasiewicz, as they all look to dethrone last year's champ Ryan Guettler. With all the firepower on the sport side of the US Open, the entertainment side of the event has some big shoes to fill. And, again, Hurley's creativity, as it did in the creation of the Surfing All Stars, shines brightly in the Walk the Walk National Championship. This year's Walk the Walk features six schools (Huntington Beach High, Lincoln- San Diego, Tom's River East-New Jersey, Pearl City-Hawaii, Corona Del Mar, and Kellam-Virginia Beach, Virginia) who've been chosen to compete for $25K. The Walk the Walk runway contest takes place Friday, August 6th. The US Open of Surfing needs no introduction. The event is into its fifth decade and draws as many people as any sports/entertainment festival in all of California. The city of Huntington Beach, in the last few years, has spent time and money revamping the Surfing Walk of Fame and the Surfing History Museum, both at the heart of Downtown HB. These improvements are, in a large part, made possible by the US Open's success and represent the city's lasting commitment to keep surfing, past and present, at its fore. While 50 years of success keeps the US Open running smoothly year in and year out, Hurley, taking over as the event's main sponsor last year, brings a new vitality to the Open.
