"I'm absolutely humbled that they would choose me," said Boaz, "I work with a lot of great teachers in this state, and this truly is a humbling experience." Boaz is also a Close Up Advisor, coordinating student trips to Washington, D.C. He and his wife have been taking students to D.C. through the Close Up program for the past 17 years. "I believe that every generation stands on the shoulders of the prev ious generation," said Boaz, "I have chosen to focus on government and American History in a way that allows students to experience what it's like to be part of a democracy." Mr. Boaz is one of three national recipients of the VFW Teacher of the Year Award. Each will receive a $1,000 donation to their individual professional account, a $1,000 grant to their school and an all-expense paid trip to attend the VFW National Convention in July to receive their national award.
