His parents were professional copy editors who worked on newspapers and magazines. When he was six, his mother would take him to a bookstore that was convert- ed into a special screening room for art movies and foreign language films. "As I got older, whenever I tried to understand why I was interested in film, that was one of the things that got me interested in those directors and things from a very early and formative age," he added. H o u y h a s e m e r ge d a s o n e o f t h e brightest talents of his generation and has signed his name to some of the most distinctive American independent films of the last decade. In 2017, he won an Emmy for out- standing single-camera picture editing fo r t h e e i g h t - p a r t H B O s e r i e s, " Th e Night Of " (2016), the police procedural created by novelist and screenwriter Richard Price and the writer and director Steven Zaillian. He has also become the go-to editor for the hot next generation talents. He edited "Mid90s" (2018), the autobi- ographically-shaded feature about Los Angeles skate culture written and direct- ed by the actor Jonah Hill. "Nick not only understood the film we were trying to make, but his creative decisions are led with feeling [and] emo- tion, and we loved all the same things about why a film works," Hill said.
