THE ARTISAN FALL 2019 • 65 coiffed side-parted pressed look. Stacey used a non- custom lace-fronted wig with tight waved human hair that was curled and fi nger styled. Sideburns to accompany this look were added separately, made by Justin in the same texture as we would imagine his facial hair to be. The character of Ben Taylor (Craig Robinson) wore his natural hair, which was styled and shaped by Carla, who notably gave him a parted and sectioned Afro called the Duke Globetrotter. She set this look with gel and heavy holding spray. Carla also designed and implemented the looks for Lady Reed (Da'Vine Joy Randolph). Synthetic wigs and pieces give the hair styles an authentic feel. Two to three wigs in tandem were used at times to obtain the voluminous hair styles featured and to achieve ample size and fullness. Linda Villalobos, the key hair stylist, was responsible for executing the hair looks for Rudy's colorful friend, Theodore Toney (Tituss Burgess). Linda masterfully showcased the many facets of this character through his changing hair looks that evolved from Afros to press and curls.
