THE ARTISAN FALL 2019 • 23 GUILD NEWS CRAFT EDUCATION Clipper Class Local 706 prides itself as having make-up artists and hair stylists who are the most highly skilled and best in the busi- ness. This was never more apparent than at the 706 Education Clipper Class. Three highly regarded hair stylists—Pierce Austin, Stacey Morris and Quan "Q" Pierce—lent us their unique barbering skills for the day. The class was well attended and covered everything, including a lecture and demonstra- tions on clipper cuts and men's facial hair grooming. Their lecture touched on many topics, including the proper equipment to have in your kits. A frank discussion ensued on how make-up artists and hair stylists can work together as a team when one of the artists has a high level of skill in the art of barbering to make the talent comfortable and prepare them for camera. They also included points on safety, where to obtain your equipment and where to go to have it maintained. Each artist brought their own unique skill set to class and during their demonstration, showed the students different ways to achieve the same result. Pierce Austin started off the demonstrations with a women's short-layered contoured haircut on model Kelcey Fry. He used "scissor-over-comb," then "clipper-over-comb" over direct layers on top using a technique with texturizing and notching to achieve the overall look. Pierce started at the nape and the temples making sure to contour the cut to the shape of Kelcey's head and face.
