W e are thrilled that, for the second year, THE TASTING PANEL was able to partner with the Wine & Spirits Wholesalers of America at their national convention, held this year in Las Vegas, to produce the annual Wine & Spirits Competition at WSWA. Response to our call for entries was enthusiastic, and the products entered were many and varied. Our esteemed panels of wine and spirits judges (see pages 35 and 96) showed extreme diligence as well as unbridled excitement as they sipped and swirled their way through the many fine wines and spirits. There were many surprises, as these results show, proving that the Wine & Spirits Competition at WSWA has become an important showcase for new brands as well as for enduring classics. Results of the WSWA “Call for Cocktails” Mixology Competition, along with winning recipes, can be found on page 93. Again, our warmest thanks to all compe- tition entrants and our heartiest congratula- tions to all winners. We look forward to working with your brands in the coming months! —Meridith May, Publisher and Executive Editor GOLD MEDALISTS Quattro Leoni 2007 Barbera d’Asti, Italy ($16.99) MARQUEE SELECTIONS Traviata 2009 Ribolla Gialla, Primorska, Slovenia ($12.99) LAUREATE IMPORTS COMPANY Esporão 2007 Touriga Nacional, Alentejo, Portugal (40) AIDIL WINES Adega Coop Redondo 2009 Porta da Ravessa White Table Wine, Alentejo, Portugal ($7.99) Adega Coop Redondo 2009 Latitude White Table Wine, Alentejo, Portugal ($8.99) Adega Coop Redondo 2009 Anta da Serra White Table Wine, Alentejo, Portugal ($9.99) SARAIVA INC.
