AS SOCI AT ION G OV ER NA NCE 2013 NEA-RA Candidate Statements Statewide Candidates Angela Philpot • It would be my privilege to represent each one of you and serve as an Arizona delegate to the 2012 NEA Representative Assembly. I am a tireless advocate for education like each one of us in AEA and am active at the local, state, and national levels of our organization. Nidia Lias • I ask for your support and vote to the NEA-RA. As AEA Treasurer and RA delegate this will allow me to continue to be a voice for our AEA members. I will engage in the dialogue and discussion as well as advocate for all our members at a national level. Emily Freed • Each year that I have taught, you, my colleagues, have been kind enough to elect me to the AEA Delegate Assembly and the NEA Representative Assembly. The members in my building have also elected me as AR. Please help me continue working for our Association by voting for Emily Freed! Gretchen Clifton • In my family, significant duty has always been reserved for the advocacy of educators' and students' rights. If you vote for me to represent you at this year's NEA-RA, I will do my best to consider the wishes, interests, and rights of my fellow AEA members and their students. 30 Spring.13advo.indd 30 Rachel Stafford • For 6 years, I have served as a dedicated board member/local leader proudly representing AEA in countless ways, taking your message/voice to state and national leaders. Attending the RA would allow me to continue my service to AEA: therefore, I appreciate your vote and support as your 2013 RA delegate! Janie Hydrick • These are uniquely challenging times for our association and for our profession. Decisions made and governance leaders elected will define who we are and determine our future. I bring you vast experience, a profound passion for our association, and an enduring commitment to you and our profession. Vote Hydrick. Thanks! Richard Ross • As a member and officer of the Paradise Valley Education Association, I continue to be amazed at the power and positive change provided by the democratic process. Joe Thomas • Serving as your AEA Vice President requires additional responsibilities to carrying your voice to the national level. As a veteran leader I strive to inform Arizona delegates on the issues, orient new delegates to NEA RA procedures, and ensure everyone feels their voice is heard. I ask for your support. Bill Rhodes • Please consider voting for Bill Rhodes as your statewide representative to the 2013 RA. I have several years of association leadership experience. I have attended ten RA's, served on the AEA Board for two terms, and had been a local president for over five terms. Thank you! Esteban Flemons • I would appreciate the opportunity to represent Arizona again at NEA-RA this summer. There are changes that need to be made in Education and strong voices are needed to facilitate them. As a professional educator let my voice be one with yours as we work for change. Chris Maza • I know well the need to defend nationally Public Education and the rights of Educators. You have trained me well, Members! I am proud representing AEA Teachers/ESP on the AEA Board, NEA committees, and as a Governing Board Member. Thanks for your consideration to "RApresent" you. Our voice matters! Andrew Morrill • Serving as AEA President allows me the privilege of representing your issues and priorities in a variety of arenas. AEA members deserve a clear voice. The Representative Assembly is the highest governing body of the NEA; please elect me to take Arizona's education challenges and needs to the NEA-RA. Spring 2013 x AEA Advocate 1/29/13 10:53 AM
