HALL OF FAME TURNS 13 Seven people will be inducted during The Alabama Music Hall of Fame Board’s 13th Induction Banquet and Awards Show, set for March 25 at the Convention Center in Montgomery. The inductees include: The Blind Boys of Alabama and Eddie Levert, (the lead singer of the O’Jays), Dothan songwriter/record produc- er Buddy Buie and Florence session musician Jerry Carrigan, Elba Native, record producer/musician Paul Hornsby, the late Muscle Shoals musician Terry Thompson and singer/Colbert-Lauderdale County State Senator Bobby Denton. HAVING A LAUGH The finals of the Bay Area Black Comedy Competition and Festival 2010 takes place April 17. It’s hosted by Don “DC” Curry. Participants include: B.T. Kingsley, Henry Coleman, Key Lewis, Kirck McHenry, Marc Howard, Marcus Combs, Nate Jackson, Rion Evans, and Willie Lynch, Jr. It all takes place at the Paramount Theatre in Oakland, CA. SHEARD’S LATEST Grammy Awards winner Karen Clark Sheard’s first release on her record label, Karew Records (distribute by EMI Gospel) is scheduled for release April 6, 2010. Her first CD in four years, All In One, which is on her own label, Karew Records, is a slick set of urban-flavored gospel. Sheard composed five of the 14 tracks on the CD. AT THE MOVIES March and April movies EDDIE LEVERT have action, love, comedy and animation. Check it out! BROOKLYN’S FINEST (Overture Films and Millenium Films) – Don Cheadle, Wesley Snipes and Ethan Hawke are all brilliant in this cop drama. Worth the price of admission. March 5. ALICE IN WONDERLAND (Disney) – Another 3-D offering. This Tim Burton directed fantasy stars Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter. It’s a wild wide. March 5. OUR FAMILY WEDDING (Fox Searchlight Pictures) – This culture clash comedy directed by Rick Famuyiwa, stars Forest Whitaker, Lance Gross, Carlos Mencia, America Ferrera, and Lupe Ontiveros. She is Mexican American. He is African-American. Their families are confused. March 12. GREEN ZONE (Universal) – This action-packed thriller stars Matt Damon as Chief Warrant Officer Roy Miller, who is in Baghdad to find weapons of mass destruction. Directed by Paul Greengrass. March 12 HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON (DreamWorks) – This 3-D digital ani- mated fable focuses on a boy and his dog. It’s voiced by Jay Baruchel and Gerard Butler. March 26. TYLER PERRY’S WHY DID I GET MARRIED TOO (Lionsgate) – Perry, DON CHEADLE, Janet Jackson, Tasha Smith, Malik Yoba and Sharon Leal star in this movie about the lives of eight college friends struggling with the challenges of marital life. April 2. DEATH AT A FUNERAL (Sony Screen Gems) This comedy about a day in the life of an American family that has come together to put a beloved husband and father to rest, stars Chris Rock, Regina Hall, Loretta Devine, Ron Glass and Peter Dinklage.
