BY PATRICE A. KELLY BOOK MARKS Sandwiched between copies of Jim Collins’How the Mighty Fall and George Clothier’s Profits Aren’t Everything, They’re the Only Thing on the desks of corporate leaders these days is Bishop David G. Evans’ new book, Dare to Be A Man. The author of Dare to be A Man: The Truth Every Man Must Know…and Every Woman Needs to Know About Him (G. P. Putnam’s Sons), to heal with Bible-based advice and counsel. He asks the question: What does it mean to be a real man? He chops up modern-day perceptions of real men simply being those with the biggest cars, the most cash or the biggest muscles. Evans argues that real men take responsibility for their actions, lead by example and are problem solvers. As the son of a substance-abusing father and a Christian mother, Evans struggled to resolve his own identity as a man. But he found a blueprint in the Bible – ancient truths about what is right concerning relationships and responsibility. Evans further states that men’s misconceptions of themselves have affected their relationships with women. As a consequence, he also devotes a special section within each chapter to women and shares man secrets about their husbands, boyfriends, fathers, brothers, sons, friends, and co-workers.
