Coachella: Day Two-Saturday The sun rises and falls before you can even get a semi-flaccid grip on your day. This would again be a day in which it would be dusk before hearing any sort of live music. I know, I know. What kind of review is this? But let me tell you the Coachella truth. Artists perform whenever you tell them to, if you are telling them to perform at Coachella. Coachella is the largest North American rock concert, maybe the most prevalent in the world after this year. Sold out. The polo fields. So they will play when you want them to and plan and prepare for it. But for Joe Concert Goer who is partaking in this festival as a participant, if you get to the festival before 1pm you will be dead from the sun and the day by 7pm. The smart money will lounge by the pool of the Hotel, Mansion and/or timeshare in which you are staying until at least 2pm, then slowly make your way to the polo field prepared for what the night will bring (until you are drinking in your room as the sun is rising, guilty.) And we did for the whole three days. Our photographer was there early as to catch all the early gems of Saturday. Here they are: MGMT, Corinne Bailey Rae, Coheed and Cambria, Flying Lotus, Kascade & DEVO. Side note: Faith No More reunited for a series of summer shows and performed for one of the first times in Southern California in several years. The sky would grow dark and become night. That night would belong to Muse. The Teignmouth, Devon trio rocked the vibrant 50,000+ fans through the night. Lead singer, Matthew Bellamy rocked cool window-shutter sunglasses during what would be one of the hottest performances of the weekend. Tiesto hit the stage shortly after and was not for the faint of heart. Only the hardcore or heavily induced could dance and bounce at ten o'clock at night for two hours after what felt like an already eleven hour day of walking, dancing and rocking one's self. Sia was the closer and did just that. She serenaded the masses and slowly brought to a close another successful day of music. The Gobi tent would after this induce a number of unfortunate souls. I would know nothing of these debaucheries. Coachella: Day Three-Sunday Sunday arrived, eventually yet quickly. You know what I mean? The sun rose slowly taunting the weary travelers. Day number three. Much pool time will be needed here. Not only to nurse the abuse that has been inflicted to the body from not just sun, dust, sound, vice but the wear on the legs from hours of walking, standing, dancing, running, shuffling through the forever and positioning. Acceptance: I may stay another night. In the end, the weekend would end very much in the way that it began so many hours and moments before, with another I am here and alive moment during a rendition of "Everything in its Right Place" from Radiohead's Thom Yorke and from a fictional cartoon band whose anthem,"Feel Good Inc" would resonate in the ears of the beloved masses as they fall in and out of consciousness while struggling in what would be a miserable six hour drive back to reality and back to the norm. For another year, this is Marvin Johnson saying I will see you in the desert, hopefully in 2011 for what I am sure will once again prove to be a small little place in time. In a desert town when the music lovers from all over the world conjoin for what we have come to know as simply, COACHELLA.
