24 LIVEMAGS.NET MAY>>10 By>>Jon Khoshafian S ome people are wine and some people are milk. Some get better as they age and others get worse. " X ", a punk rock band with a career that spans over thirty years, is like the finest wine, getting better and better with age. X has one of those great Hollywood stories—quickly ascending to pop-culture prominence, enjoying years of success, seeing a moment when band members pursued individual careers. This was followed by a resurgence and renewed interest in their music, and in the current stage there is a return to basics and the reinvention of the storied band. With over a dozen albums released, X marks the spot in a long history of great punk rock. In late 2009, X released two Christmas songs, "Santa Claus is Coming to Town " and "Jingle Bells" adding the new spice that many of our favorite Christmas songs need. Currently, the band is out and hungrier than ever. EXene, John Doe, D.J. Bonebrake and Billy Zoom, the original members of X, are out there playing gigs once again and showcasing their love for music that still remains after three decades. The longevity of X is a testimony to their greatness. A band's following is the best way to gauge success and sustainability. All signs show that X's loyal following has not only sustained them, but has allowed the type of success where X can continue to woo new fans and re-invent themselves for the 21st century.
