12 LIVEMAGS.NET MAY>>10 THE MAY TODO LIST Tony Orlando In Concert MAY 15TH, 2010 By>>leslie MorgAn S outhern California is known as the movie capital of the world, but we also are home to some of the best music and theater venues in the country. The Geffen Playhouse, Ahmanson Theater, Pasadena Playhouse, Home Depot Center, Staples Center and so many more venues, help make southern California a great place to watch live musical events and theatrical performances. We actually have a small piece of our own Great White Way here in SoCal with the La Mirada Theater for the Performing Arts. The beautiful theater in La Mirada, California, has been staging some of the best performances the country has seen for the last four decades. From critically acclaimed plays to classic symphonies to star studded musical extravaganzas, La Mirada has been home to some of the most renowned performances in the country. The theater presents programs both entertaining and educational for people of all ages. On May 15th the La Mirada Theater once again will showcase 'the best of the best 'when Tony Orlando performs a very special concert for two shows only. It is a once in a lifetime event— not to be missed. Orlando, with five Number One hits and millions of selling records to his credit, will perform a rare showcase of songs that will celebrate the Veterans of our country whose daily efforts to protect our great nation are inspirational. "Let's Salute America" is Orlando's new show that was inspired by his hit song "Tie A Yellow Ribbon 'Round the Ole Oak Tree." The symbol of the yellow ribbon is one that is very dear to Tony's heart since it represents hope and freedom, and he recognizes the importance of that symbol in American culture today. Orlando, who has been entertaining and engaging audiences for decades wanted to find a way to show his support to those men and women who serve our country and he chose to do so through a legacy of music. From Toby Keith to Neil Diamond, Orlando will sing some of the songs of artists who have helped shape American music as well as performing a tribute to George M. Cohan's famous song, "Yankee Doodle Dandy." In addition to both contemporary and classic standards from well known artists, Orlando will be singing some of his own top hits and all time favorites including "Candida," "Knock Three Times," and "Say, Has Anybody Seen My Gypsy Rose." Orlando also is best known for his multi-ethnic variety show that was ground- breaking for CBS television and was an instant hit for the network. The show ran for four successful seasons with many big name guests. He is an American Music Award winner and a People's Choice Award winner and has received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Orlando also has been featured in the well- received television series on VH1, "Behind the Music." Tony, also a writer and producer of his own musical theater productions, wrote and produced the show "Jukebox Dreams," which premiered at Harrah's Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The show was about one man's dreams, set to music. The show was so successful that it later went on tour all over the country. Orlando's home is currently in Branson, Missouri, where he performs regularly to sold- out crowds. It is an especially rare treat that he is making his way back to southern California for this one- day event in May. There will be two performances of Orlando's show on the 15th of May, at 2pm and 8pm. Tickets are priced between $45 and $70 and can be purchased at the La Mirada Theatre's website, www.lamiradatheatre.com or by calling the La Mirada Theater Box Office at (562) 944-9801 or (714) 994-6310.
