Sponsored by the Indepen- dent Filmmaker Initiative, this initial Global Women of Color in Film Day brings much needed diversity to the 71st Festival de Cannes, showcas- ing short films like Beal's. Beal enthused, "Having our film screen at Cannes was one of the most amazing ex- periences. The festival really empowers filmmakers. I feel very honored and blessed to be a part of it." The film also won Best Short Film and was also nominated for Best Writing, Best Cin- ematography, Best Sound and Best Music at the 2018 Top Indie Film Awards. For Beal, who was bullied as a young girl suffering through the foster care system, and whose family includes three adopted siblings, the sto- ryline struck close to home. She just couldn't pass up the opportunity to produce the film. A graduate of Howard University, Chris started her entertainment career as a PA for MTV and BET networks and later worked in closed- captioning, extras casting and production coordinating/ producing low-budget indies until she moved into loca- tions in 2014 and found her home. In addition to location managing, she volunteers for the Yes-to-Jobs Program mentoring at-risk high school students in jobs throughout the industry. In addition to Emma Rae, Chris recently worked on Untitled Tim Doyle (ABC), The Mayor (ABC), Future Man (Hulu) and Snowfall (FX). She was a member of the 2017 COLA (California On Location Awards) Location Team of the Year – Studio Feature Film winner, Bright. With support from Viola Davis and Julius Ten- non's JuVee Productions and Ajuua Entertainment, Brinkley, an American publicist and event producer, had two days of diversity activities planned. In response to the global cry of women screaming #timesup and #metoo, both events celebrated women in film.
