CJ Epple, a culinary student at Douglas High School, delivered lemon bars to Converse County Superintendent Dan Espeland, for his birthday earlier in December. Douglas Education Association President Mickey Anderson teaches a culinary class of special education students, where they learn kitchen basics in preparation for possible food service jobs. Anderson serves as the transition coordinator and helps students move from high school to "real life," so does some job-coaching as well. Members of the Cheyenne Teachers Education Association recently got together to watch the documentary, "American Teacher," while enjoying some pizza. The movie can be loaned out to Locals through the WEA ofice. The 2011 documentary contains interviews of policy experts and startling facts about the lives and careers of four teachers. "American Teacher" tells the collective story by and about those closest to the issues in our educational system—the 3.2 million teachers who spend every day in classrooms across our country. Professional Issues Director Kathy Scheurman was invited to the Student Wyoming Education Association local at the University of Wyoming to help students prepare and ask questions about upcoming PRAXIS exams, which are the assessments required for initial licensure of elementary and social studies teacher candidates. The students took time going through some test questions, as well as asking some questions about testing locations, rules, and test preparation techniques.
