STORAGE SOLUTIONS Speed and Collaboration The Facilis Shared File System SL7920 www.facilis.com off-line storage). A growing amount of this content is available remotely and thus represents cloud storage. Figure 3 shows our projections for archive cloud storage (near-line, object and off-line) versus local archives. For many archiving and distribution applications where content is relatively static, low cost/high capacity SATA HDD storage, optical discs and tape- based storage libraries continue to predominate. Hard disk drives and increasingly, enterprise SSDs, are used in high-performance storage applications, such as video editing, where storage cost factors must be combined with performance requirements. For applications requiring rugged field use or fast playback response flash memory either as cards or solid-state drives (SSDs) is becoming more popular. Figure 4 shows results from the 2017 survey on media used in professional video cameras, where flash memory is the majority of the storage media used in professional video cameras. From 2016 to 2022 entertainment and media digital storage TAM (without archiving and preser- vation) will increase by about 1.8X from $4.0 B to $7.3 B. The growth in storage capacities will result in a total media and entertainment storage revenue growth of about 1.7 X between 2016 and 2022 (from $6.3 B to $11.1 B).
